Toronto Doula Group - Labour Doula Mentoring

Becoming a doula is an enormous undertaking.  There are so many training organizations out there to choose from and the content you learn is all fairly similar.  Then you leave your training and can now start working with clients, and that can be a daunting task to find those clients and muddle through the unknown process.  Trainers can help you but they also have all the other trainees to help and support too.  Having a personal mentor can make a huge difference on your success and longevity in this business.

The Toronto Doula Group is proud to introduce a Doula Mentoring Program to offer one on one support to you after you have completed your training.

What Is Involved:

  • Two In-Person meetings per month for 6 months.  Topics for the meetings are decided during the first in-person or before the meetings take place.  Meetings would be approximately 2 hours in length, during the day.

  • Phone and Text support during business hours, during the week for questions or advice.

  • Listing on the Toronto Doula Group website as a Student Doula including a picture and write up on who you are as a doula. Student Doula Rate is $650.00 with $50 coming back to The Toronto Doula Group for administration fees.

  • Attending a hospital prenatal class and infant care class, taught by a Certified Childbirth Educator which may be necessary for your certification and will include exposure to pregnant families. All classes are held at St Michaels Hospital in Toronto.

  • When you go on call for a client your mentor is available by phone or text to answer questions and give advice, including virtual labour support even over night.  (One client only.  Subject to Mentors availability and their own clients birth)

    • Extra Virtual Birth Support and Debriefing can be purchased for $100/birth

  • Post-birth debriefing after your client's birth to go over how it went, what you learned, what you felt went well, what you feel you could have changed or been done differently and how to manage the postnatal visit. In Person or via telephone.

Prerequisites:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.

  • Must be within the Greater Toronto Area for meetings and phone calls.  Meetings will be either in Scarborough or at St Michael's Hospital.  If an in-person meeting can't be arranged then they will be by phone or FaceTime. (Outside of the GTA? See below)

  • Must have completed a Labour / Birth Doula training with one of the approved organizations listed on the Association of Ontario Doulas website.

  • Must be a member of the Association of Ontario Doulas or have proof of doula liability insurance.

Commitment/Additional Information:

  • This mentorship program is 6 months in length.  All efforts must be made to complete it within the 6 months but extensions are available upon request.  If after completion you would like more visits those can be purchased at a rate of $50/meeting

  • This mentorship program does not guarantee getting you clients but it is possible that clients looking for a student doula could be available to you and that they can be used toward your certification.

  • The cost of this program is $600.00

  • Payments can be paid in two installments.

  • This is a limited program and you will have to submit an application to see if you are accepted.

Outside of Toronto but still want support?  That can be arranged

  • You will receive the same as above, and the attendance at any classes taught by the Mentor will be based on your ability to get to Toronto.

  • In-Person meetings will be done by Zoom or FaceTime.
